Innovation projects

Same components. A real problem to solve.

Most innovation projects use the same basic parts: sensors, a microcontroller and a few motors. What makes them stand out is the problem they solve. Start with a real problem from daily life, then build the solution. Here are a few ideas to get started.

Smart Irrigation for Water-Saving Farming

Smart Irrigation for Water-Saving Farming

The problem

Farmers and home gardeners often water on a fixed schedule, wasting water when the soil is already wet and under-watering in hot weather.

The idea

A soil moisture sensor checks the soil all the time. The pump switches on only when the soil is dry and stops when it is wet enough. Add a DHT11 sensor and a rain sensor to make it smarter, and send alerts to a phone with an ESP32.

Smart Walking Stick for the Visually Impaired
AccessibilityClass 7–12

Smart Walking Stick for the Visually Impaired

The problem

Walking sticks cannot warn a visually impaired person about an obstacle at head or waist height until it is too late.

The idea

An ultrasonic sensor on the stick measures the distance to obstacles. The closer the obstacle, the faster the buzzer or vibration motor beeps. A button can send the location to a family member with a GSM or ESP32 module.

Smart Dustbin for Clean Schools and Campuses
Hygiene & EnvironmentClass 6–10

Smart Dustbin for Clean Schools and Campuses

The problem

Overflowing dustbins and touching dirty lids spread germs, and nobody knows a bin is full until it starts to smell.

The idea

When a hand comes near, a sensor opens the lid with a servo motor, so nothing needs to be touched. A second sensor measures how full the bin is and lights an LED or sends a message to the cleaning staff when it is nearly full.

Gas Leak and Fire Alert for Kitchens
SafetyClass 9–12 / College

Gas Leak and Fire Alert for Kitchens

The problem

A small LPG leak or a fire in the kitchen can go unnoticed when nobody is at home or in the room.

The idea

A gas sensor and a flame sensor watch the kitchen. On danger, a loud buzzer sounds, a relay can switch off the gas valve or exhaust fan, and an alert message goes to the owner’s phone.

Line Following Delivery Robot for Hospitals and Warehouses
AutomationClass 8–12 / College

Line Following Delivery Robot for Hospitals and Warehouses

The problem

Carrying light items such as medicines, files or parts from one place to another takes staff time away from more important work.

The idea

The same line follower robot students already know, now with a purpose. It follows a marked path, stops at stations using RFID or a color mark, and an obstacle sensor makes it halt when someone steps in front.
